Mahalah knew more or less about the consequences of forming a friendship in the old version. But then the actual concept of the “game” was confusing and complicated. So I don’t know how she knew or how much. Orion suggested we change it to keep her ignorant so she wasn’t seeming too dumb or too much like a jerk for doing it to him.

I did kinda miss having Wylie and Brigger being in so early. But the pacing works better in the version. Wylie’s school was changed from Worthington to Chiron, from Greek Mythology since in the time I was redeveloping UF I changed to a heavy Greek theme.
Brigger is actually gay. He was back then too, but I had him tease Mahalah like this a lot. Like with much of old UF I had too much influence from anime at the time. Brigger is actually a lot less of a jerk and a lot less molesty now. Thankfully. Part of it is Orion’s influence in how he writes Brigger when it’s his turn to write. I like how Brigger and Mahalah have become basically like sisters in the latest chapters I’ve written.
Orrick’s zombie designed changed a bit in the new version. Originally all undead looked basically the same. Then I made it so there was types like there is now but it was something you sort of evolved into and called it “branding.” The design for vampires, which is what Wylie is, just looked a lot like the first form which was just called being a “generic.” Now you just get assigned a type when you reverse the first time.
I considered keeping their fingernails black in the new version too, but I was worried about it looking weird. Also it would be more work. The insides of their mouths still darken like that though.
In the first version for various reasons it was difficult for Mahalah to make contact with Orrick. There was no phone involved. Man did I even HAVE a cellphone yet back then?
Such a thing does not exist in the new version. The spirit game is stupid. Of course, UF is no longer focused on Undead VS Undead fights. It’s more of a monster hunting thing now with occasional Undead conflict.
