Actually, most of them are all based on a single incident, a serial killer from the 1950’s called Ed Gein. The movies Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs are all “based” on his crimes.
Ultimate tell that some story is NOT actually based on true events no matter how much it claims so: when there is no survivor so noone can tell the story. Like, SOME stuff can be guessed based on looking at the scene, but usually not nearly enough.
